Kodak zet afslankplan door
Eastman Kodak said it would axe 620 jobs across Britain and France as part of a global cull blamed on the increasing popularity of digital photography.
A plant in Annesley, central England, producing consumer photographic film will be shut by September 2005, with the loss of about 350 jobs. A further 270 positions will be shed at a site in Chalon, eastern France.
The cuts are part of a three-year programme announced by Kodak in January to reduce its global workforce by up to 15,000.
"Such actions are essential for Kodak to reinforce its leading position in digital imaging products and services, while sustaining and extending its worldwide leadership in traditional photographic products," said Etienne Bourgeois, regional operations manager for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
